Author Interview – D. L. Armillei

When Donna was four years old she wrote a “story” in “cursive” and gave it to her mother to read out loud. Her mother tucked the pages into a desk drawer, telling Donna that she should read the amazing story she had created in a few years—after she had learned how to read and write.

Now—able to read and write—Donna continues to create amazing stories. As an Ultrasound Technologist, she draws on the excitement and drama of working in the Emergency Department of a major city hospital to grip readers with her tales, taking them on a journey into an imaginative alternate world—one full of twists and turns and fast-paced action.

A Massachusetts native, Donna now splits her time between living in her home state and FL. She can often be found sweating in a Zumba class, playing in the Universal and Disney parks, or hanging around tiki huts as long as they’re on white sand beaches. Being under the impression she’s a treasure hunter, she sometimes scuba dives but usually chickens out and ends up snorkelling.

Q. There’s a fan art submission page on your website, what is it like to see what you have written come to life in the form of art?

D. L. Armillei

Fantasy fans are the best. I love how passionate they are about becoming immersed in new worlds. Seeing the Living World, which is the alternate realm in my book Shock of Fate, and all its characters come to life is amazing. I like seeing reader’s interpretation of the Living World and its inhabitants. It’s interesting to view what piece of the story readers choose to create and I admire their amazing artistic talent. I’d love to see more artwork on my Fan Artwork page. Keep them coming! You can upload yours here: fan-artwork

Q. If you had the chance of meeting one author (living or dead), who would you choose?

D. L. Armillei

I would love to meet JK Rowling. My book has been compared to Jo’s Harry Potter series. Our wild imaginations would give us a lot to talk about. Plus, she seems like she would be fun to hang out with.

Q. What’s it like writing a story set in an alternate world?

D. L. Armillei

Escaping to another world is the number one reason I write fantasy. I enjoy the challenge of building a world from scratch. There is a lot involved. You have to think about transportation, laws, education, politics, medicine, social hierarchy, environment, and cultures. If there is magic, then you need to figure out what are the restrictions and rules and how does one come about learning how to use it.

Q. What can we expect from the author of Shock of Fate in the future?

D. L. Armillei

I am pursuing Shock of Fate to become a major motion picture. Merchandising from the book is expected to be available by the end of this year 2017 and will available for purchase on my website Book 2 in the Anchoress Series is scheduled for release in 2018. In book 2 Van will face new challenges in the Living World such as The Plague of Death and terrible sea monsters like Charybdis. How will she ever survive?
